DDS class 9.25.08

In class we went over the information that we discovered about our events. Unfortunately I hadn't heard back from my contact person. Hopefully I will here from her soon because it would be nice to have some more background information to go on. We also started working on creating personas for the people that would be coming to these events. We are also starting to delve into mapping the experience.

Visual Inspirations

After reading about the solstice I looked for images that had some mystical reference. I really like the existing Muir Woods logo, but for the Winter Solstice event I would want to add some mystic elements. Here are just a few images that I found on the web that I thought had a good feel to draw inspiration from. I would like to keep the thick outline feel of the original logo with some more delicate features.

Insights about Muir Woods Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Muir Woods celebrates this occasion with a magical evening that has included such things as a stage performance, songs, stories, and trails lit by luminaria. This event usually happens between December 21st and the 23rd. I learned that there is a lot of mysticism behind the solstice and I want to use that in my design some how. Most cultures hold it as a time of rebirth which involves rituals, holidays and celebrations.

Visual References

Here are some images I found and pictures I took:

Lynda Online Training

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I first signed on, but I was pleasantly suprised. I like that the videos are shorter because it gave me time to go back and jot down a few notes. I think that it was very informative and it kept my attention although I was expecting more visuals or movement. Kelly Goto made the information pretty easy to understand and I think I learned a lot of new things about the process of interactive design.

DDS class 9.18.08

I really enjoyed class on Thursday. It was really helpful to have George Su come in and help explain what the Golden Gate National Parks was looking for. Being able to choose our own event was also pretty exciting. I feel like we have the opportunity to really expand and learn during this project. I was very happy that I got my first choice of events which was the Muir Woods Winter Solstice. Being surrounded by nature will be a nice change because living in the city can get a little overwhelming at times.

Some of my work

Here are a few things that are in my portfolio. There are some drawing, photography and graphic design pieces.

DDS class 9.11.08

I thought that class was fun. We went over everyones blogs, which was nice because I got to know my classmates better. Seeing everyone elses work was very interesting and a great twist to a class like this.

Going over the Golden Gate Parks assignment was really exciting. I think that this is going to be a really great experience. This class is going to be a lot of fun and most likely extremely hard work, but I think the outcome will be worth it.

Interactive inspiration continued

This is from Jonathan Yuen's very cool website.

DDS class 9.4.08

Week 1. I thought the class was very interesting. I really enjoyed looking at all the different ways that interactive design is used today. The world is changing and technology is becoming more dominant, so its good to learn about how people are dealing and adapting to these new possibilities.

Digital Design Studio expectations

I am expecting to learn a lot about web design and other kinds of interactive design. I want to learn about the way new technology is changing the way people design. I'm also hoping to get a better idea of how the collaboration process works in the digital design field.

Inspiring interactive artist

A while back I was doing some research for a class and stumbled upon a website that I really loved. The designers name is Jonathan Yuen and I like his site because of its simplicity and the beautiful way he links all the elements together. To check it out go to: http://www.jonathanyuen.com
